On May 4, 2010, New Hope Charities held its 10th Annual Golf for Kids Tournament at the beautiful Dye Preserve in Jupiter. The event, sponsored by Florida Crystals and The William H. Pitt Foundation, raised just over $54,000 to help fund the much needed programs and services that New Hope Charities provides to the disadvantaged communities of Pahokee and Belle Glade.
“It was our goal to raise at least $50,000 this year and we exceeded it. Thanks to the generous support of our sponsors and friends, our event was once again a success” said Alex Fanjul, Co-Chairman of the event. Fellow Co-Chair Willie Surtees expressed “the event is about having fun and raising funds to help the community, and this event helped us to achieve both.”
There were over 60 participants in this year’s charity tournament. Players and attending guests enjoyed delicious Cuban food on the lunch buffet prepared by Ernesto Priede and other Florida Crystals volunteers and friends. Other sponsors for the event included Al Packer Ford, AON Risk Services, and SSI Petroleum. Golf balls and hats given to event participants were graciously provided by Jose Tapia of Golf Destinaire.
Tournament winners were Alexandra Gardner, Willie and Pam Surtees, and Robert Surtees. Alex Fanjul’s team placed an impressive third. Al Rivera won the Grand Prize for the raffle, a 5-day 4-night trip to the fabulous Casa de Campo “The Caribbean’s Most Complete Resort” in La Romana, Dominican Republic.
